Cornish Commons Move-OUt - May 2, 2020


Moving all of our residents out of Cornish Commons is a tricky task! Please review all the information below to help plan your move-out on or before Saturday, May 2, 2020. Our team is working diligently to create the best possible scenarios for each individual while maintaining the health and safety of our greater community. 

 

The following information has been divided up based on your current status as a resident.

FOR MOVED-OUT RESIDENTS WITH REMAINING BELONGINGS


Attend our virtual move out meetings on the following dates. We'll send you the links to join by email.

  • Wednesday, April 22 at 3 PM PDT
  • Friday, April 24 at 12 PM PDT

Need to pack, ship, store but won’t make it back in person? Dorm Room Movers has you covered! Review the details in our packing section below. 

 

If you instead plan on visiting the building in person to retrieve your belongings, please contact us in advance to make arrangements. Many new restrictions have been put in place since your departure and we want to keep you informed and safe!

 

FOR CURRENT RESIDENTS MOVING OUT


Attend our virtual move-out meetings on the following dates. We'll send you the links to join by email.

  • Thursday, April 23 at 12 PM PDT
  • Thursday, April 23 at 4:30 PM PDT

Please make sure to sign up for a move-out appointment time via the link in your Cornish email inbox. We have included it with our move-out guide email. We are restricting the number of move-outs at one time to make sure everybody can leave efficiently and safely. Each time slot is for 30 minutes. 

 

Plan on being completely packed and ready to head out with your belongings when your appointment begins. You will be provided with a freshly cleaned blue bin to help you move your items. 

 

 

Academic year housing contracts end on Saturday, May 2, so please plan to move out on or before that date. If you need to move out at a day or time that isn't between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, from April 27 to May 2, please contact us. 

 

If you want to utilize the services provided by Dorm Room Movers, please connect with us via email so that we can review your needs, since you will be following different procedures compared to residents who are currently not living in the building. 

 

 

PacKing AND SHIPPING WITH DORM ROOM MOVERS


Our team has partnered with Dorm Room Movers to offer additional packing, shipping and storage resources for you! We can allow their background checked movers access to your rooms in order to pack your items for storage or shipping without you being present. This resource is available to all students for move out.

 

Once you've registered and granted permission for entry, on your scheduled "move day," they'll send you a private link to live video chat with your movers while they pack up your belongings! You'll also receive a link to the recording of their time in your room once completed in case you can't make the call. We will work directly with Dorm Room Movers to schedule your service and you'll receive a 3-hour time slot for your Zoom call once your date is confirmed.    

 

If you'd like to move forward with this service, please complete the following steps:

  1. Create an account with Dorm Room Movers (use this link) to get started. Once you’re ready to secure your service, just register for $39.99. Pricing for packing, storage, and shipping is priced per item, so please make sure you fully understand the costs described on their website.
  2. Fill out this Dorm Room Movers Permission To Enter form to let us know you've signed up for the service. It's short!
  3. Contact us with any questions or necessary follow up. 

 

Storage Recommendations


Our building does not remain vacant over the summer so leaving items in your room is not an option, but we're happy to collaborate with you and your families to figure this out together! If it's easiest for you to leave your items in Seattle, we have called storage in our area to make sure you know your options.

MOve-Out Day Checklist


  • Remind yourself when your move-out appointment is
  • Pack everything before your appointment
  • Do your best to clean your room
  • Check your mail before you leave
  • Leave your mail key and ID with us
  • Remove all trash
  • Bring items for donation to the garage

Room Cleaning Expectations


Before you leave, make sure to clean your room. Those of you remaining in the building can avoid a cleaning or junk removal charges by doing the following:

  • Vacuum the entire room
  • Clean your bathroom & vanity 
  • Dust
  • Take out all trash & recycling
  • Remove all personal items
  • Open all windows and blinds, let fresh air in

 

We know some of you left the building in a hurry, and expected to return sooner. If your items will be removed by a partnered service, we may make some allowances for the condition of your room, to a point. If you have no plans to return to the building and believe you may have left a particular mess or problem behind, please let us know so we can address any potential cleanliness concerns beforehand. 

Move-out FAQs


What if I want to move out before Friday, May 1?

No problem! Please contact us so we can make arrangements that will be the most effective and safest option for you to leave the building. 

 

What if I can't move during my designated time on May 1 or May 2?

All requests for exceptions to moving times must be made, in writing by April 29, to housing@cornish.edu

 

What if I am a graduating senior?

Our standard senior extension is in place to accommodate those planning to attend the College’s graduation events. With this year's commencement events transitioned to a virtual experience, we invite the graduating seniors to wrap up their moves by the May 2 deadline as well. If you have specific accommodations you’d like to request, please email us at housing@cornish.edu

 

What if I want to live in Cornish Commons for the summer?

Please prepare to apply for summer housing! We plan on have space to accommodate you, but we are still working out the finer details at this time. Indicate your interest by filling out the form we emailed to you about Summer Housing Interest, or simply email us. 

 

Once you have signed up for summer housing, you can expect to remain in your current room until you receive your summer room assignment. Please be prepared to move rooms as soon as May 3. Current and graduating residents will all be eligible for summer housing. 

 

I want to donate some of my items. What do I do?

This is a difficult time to make in-person donations. Rather than encouraging you to go out into the world to a donation service, we plan on having a drop-off point in our garage. We will provide boxes and bags to pack donations, so focus on figuring out what you plan to donate in advance. 

 

Can I still plan on living in Cornish Commons next academic year?

Please do! You can find the link to apply for Fall 2020 housing by logging into Compass and clicking on the Housing page. 

 

If I'm living in Cornish Commons next fall, do I still need to complete a Change of Address form?

Yes! After move out, any mail received by the College for you will be returned to sender. Your mail box and key are likely to change next year, so please do not mark this change of address as temporary. 

 

Where can I park?

We do not provide or have any parking available on-campus. There is street parking available all around. If needed, you can also park at the Whole Foods parking lot, located at 2200 Westlake. The entrance is at the corner of Westlake and 9th. If you buy an item, even a bottle of water, they will validate your parking for 2 hours.
